Rebuilding after the flash flood: the Eastgate neighborhood needs your help

Neighbors in the Eastgate neighborhood are rebuilding after the flash flood; every contribution goes to materials and supplies.

The flash flood hit the Eastgate neighborhood on 25 July. My home was one of 71 damaged, and 13 families are still in temporary shelter at a borrowed warehouse. The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming. Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before. We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy. We buy supplies locally and in bulk, so the money goes further. Receipts and photos will be posted in updates. Where the $4,650 goes: • Food parcels for displaced families: $820 • Tools and labor for repairs: $2,100 • Bedding, blankets and mattresses: $1,250 • Clean water and purification supplies: $480 Glad we found this place. - Skylar

You're not alone, Skylar. This could happen to any of us. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too.

So sorry you're going through this. Hope you get there. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money. Love from Coyoacán.
