HelpBLESS

Every kind of help

Money is only one way to help. HelpBLESS lets you ask for, and offer, eleven kinds of help. Here is what each one means, with examples.

Money

Funds for a specific, genuine need

If you need it: Ask for funds toward a specific, honest need: a repair, a medical cost, a deposit, equipment, school fees.

If you want to give it: Give any amount by card or wallet. Ask the owner questions first.

Example: "Help me replace the clutch on my delivery van so I can work again."

Money posts require the legal details of whoever receives the money.

Bills & expenses

Rent, utilities, medical, tuition, a specific invoice

If you need it: Ask for help with one named bill: rent arrears, a utility shut-off, a hospital invoice, tuition, a funeral.

If you want to give it: Give toward the bill. Owners are asked to pay the provider directly and post the receipt.

Example: "Rent for three months after my hospital stay."

Hands-on labor

Repairs, moving, cleaning, building, harvest help

If you need it: Ask for hands: roof repairs, moving day, a ramp, clearing storm damage, painting, harvest help.

If you want to give it: Offer a few hours, tools or a van. Say when you are free and what you can do.

Example: "Two weekends of roof repair for a retired bus driver."

Volunteer time

Companionship, errands, events, tutoring hours

If you need it: Ask for time and company: a weekly visit, a tutor, a phone friend, event volunteers, a pet foster.

If you want to give it: Offer an hour a week, or a one-off shift. Small, regular time makes a big difference.

Example: "A weekly hour of conversation for a neighbor who lives alone."

Professional service

Skilled work: legal, medical, trades, design, IT

If you need it: Ask for a professional skill: a few hours of legal advice, an electrician, a translator, a web designer for a small charity.

If you want to give it: Offer pro bono hours or work at cost. Mention your licence or credentials.

Example: "A licensed electrician to fix unsafe wiring for a family of five."

Mentoring

Ongoing guidance: careers, studies, business, recovery

If you need it: Ask for ongoing guidance: a career change, first-generation applications, starting a business, recovery.

If you want to give it: Offer a monthly call. Mentoring can happen online from anywhere in the world.

Example: "A nursing mentor for someone returning to study after ten years."

Consultation

One-off expert advice or a second opinion

If you need it: Ask for a one-off expert opinion: a second medical opinion, tenant rights, farm advice, a business plan review.

If you want to give it: Offer a short call or written review. You do not give formal professional advice, just guidance.

Example: "An agronomist to look at failing irrigation on a small farm."

Goods & supplies

Food, clothing, equipment, devices, school supplies

If you need it: Ask for things: winter coats, a laptop, a sewing machine, work boots, school supplies, a crib.

If you want to give it: Offer an item you no longer need, or help buy one. Arrange pickup in a public place.

Example: "A working laptop for a student whose own has broken."

Transport

Rides to appointments, relocation, travel for treatment

If you need it: Ask for rides: dialysis three times a week, a lift to a new job, travel for treatment.

If you want to give it: Offer a regular ride or a one-off trip. Rides need a verified photo, ID or background check.

Example: "Volunteer drivers for dialysis appointments."

Offering rides requires a verified profile to protect everyone.

Housing

A room, temporary shelter, or help finding a place

If you need it: Ask for a spare room, short-term shelter or somewhere to stay near a hospital.

If you want to give it: Offer a room for a few weeks or months. Hosting requires a verified photo, ID or background check.

Example: "A room near the transplant center for a family travelling for treatment."

Hosting requires a verified profile.

Something else

Anything that does not fit above

If you need it: Anything lawful and genuine that does not fit above.

If you want to give it: Tell the owner what you can do.

Example: "Help finding a lost hearing aid in the park."

Which should I pick?

  • Pick the one that is closest to the thing you actually need. A rent shortfall is Bills, a broken van is Money, a weekend of lifting is Labor.
  • You can only choose one kind per post. If you need several things, write separate posts or explain in the story.
  • Money and Bills are the only kinds that take payments. Everything else uses offers of help.
