Bogotá
Since 2022, our volunteer team has run the Second Helping every Tuesday from the back of the old library basement. We started with 29 families, and now we feed 328 each week. Donations have dropped by about 55% this winter, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 16 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Bogotá market and keep every receipt. Each $10 feeds a family of four for a week. All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs. Where the $800 goes: • Refrigeration and electricity: $70 • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $175 • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $555 You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it. - Esperanza

Updates from Esperanza

  1. Good news. Because of your gifts ($112 in total) I made the first payment toward refrigeration and electricity. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
