A solar-powered water pump: a volunteer-led effort in Belfast
A community-led a solar-powered water pump at the Jacaranda vacant lot that will serve 400 neighbors.

For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 11 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Jacaranda vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $2,650.
It will serve about 400 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in May and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $2,650 goes:
• Permits and inspections: $195
• Materials: $1,950
• Tools hire and delivery: $505
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.
