Weekly meals for families and seniors in Pune

The Community Pantry pantry in Pune is running low just as demand rises; $400 will stock it for 9 weeks.

Since 2021, our volunteer team has run Community Pantry every Saturday from the back of a community center. We started with 16 families, and now we feed 307 each week. Donations have dropped by about 31% this harvest gap, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 15 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Pune market and keep every receipt. Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week. All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs. Where the $400 goes: โ€ข Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $330 โ€ข Baby formula and diapers: $40 โ€ข Refrigeration and electricity: $30 I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.

Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale) comes first ($330) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Good question.
