Weekly meals for families and seniors in Pretoria
The Community Pantry pantry in Pretoria is running low just as demand rises; $900 will stock it for 8 weeks.

Since 2022, our volunteer team has run Community Pantry every Monday from the back of the mosque courtyard. We started with 16 families, and now we feed 208 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 43% this rainy season, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 7 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Pretoria market and keep every receipt.
Each $10 feeds a family of four for a week.
I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday.
Where the $900 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $490
• Refrigeration and electricity: $75
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $335
With deep gratitude,
Carla
Updates from Carla
Small update. $524 so far, the plan for refrigeration and electricity is now scheduled.
Good news. Because of your gifts ($455 in total) I made the first payment toward rice, beans, flour and oil. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
Thank you all. We're at 45% now ($405). I'm honestly stunned. I made the first payment toward rice, beans, flour and oil.

Thanks for sharing this. Hope you get there. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. God bless.
is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Carla.
It's all in the list in the story. rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale) is the big one at $490, I'll post a receipt when it's paid. Appreciate you taking the time.
thanks for sharing this, Carla. Gave what I could, wish it was more. I'll check back for the next update. Blessings.
Hope it all works out, Carla. More neighborhoods should do this
