We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a community garden - we need $1,000 for materials.

For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a community garden. This year a group of 29 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Freedom vacant lot, but no funding. We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $350, and the remaining cost is $1,000. It will serve about 377 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $1,000 goes: • Materials: $760 • Tools hire and delivery: $155 • Safety equipment and signage: $85 Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself. - Fernando

Wishing you the best, Fernando. This could happen to any of us. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day. Greetings from Hamilton
