Emergency hernia repair for Ife: covering what insurance won't
Ife needs emergency hernia repair at Abuja Regional Medical Center and the family is $550 short of the hospital's estimate.
🇳🇬 Nigeria606 views
Ife was diagnosed with severe cataracts in both eyes in August. The surgeon at Abuja Regional Medical Center recommended emergency hernia repair, and She is scheduled for November. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $730, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $550 short.
my mother has been in and out of Abuja Regional Medical Center since August. The doctors say severe cataracts in both eyes will get worse without emergency hernia repair. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $730 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Ife struggles with daily life and can't climb stairs. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 4 weeks. During that time Ife won't be able to climb stairs, so the costs keep growing.
The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did.
Where the $550 goes:
• Hospital stay (5 nights): $360
• Post-operative medication: $60
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $105
• Travel and lodging for the family: $25

Rooting for you, Lola. Your post was clear and honest. I hope November is when things finally get easier.
Wishing you the best, Lola. Shared it with a few friends. Sent it to 6 people at work.
So sorry you're going through this. Get well soon. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust. God bless.
Praying for you, Lola. Hope the treatment goes smoothly and recovery is quick. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Love from Saint-Denis
this could happen to any of us. Put this on a community board in Thane this morning. Blessings.
