I live with low vision from retinitis pigmentosa. My occupational therapist at the Duque de Caxias Rehabilitation Centre has assessed me and recommended a pair of hearing aids. The public scheme doesn't cover it, and the quote from the supplier is $1,350.
My current equipment is 12 years old and keeps breaking, which has confined me to home for 10 weeks.
With the right equipment I could join the school sports day. It would change my everyday life and my ability to work from home.
We've applied to two charities already and received small contributions; this campaign covers the rest.
Funds go toward the equipment, delivery, fitting and a year of servicing.
Where the $1,350 goes:
• pair of hearing aids: $1,200
• Fitting and training sessions: $55
• Delivery and set-up: $20
• First-year servicing plan: $75
