Gustavo was diagnosed with severe cataracts in both eyes in February. The surgeon at Tuxtla Gutiérrez University Hospital recommended a partial thyroidectomy, and He is scheduled for April. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $2,550, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $1,900 short. my father has been in and out of Tuxtla Gutiérrez University Hospital since February. The doctors say severe cataracts in both eyes will get worse without a partial thyroidectomy. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $2,550 is more than we can find. While we wait, Gustavo struggles with daily life and can't work a full shift. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 7 weeks.
