Stop the eviction: 4 months of rent for Sarah's family in Bronx
After the closure of the factory, Sarah is 4 months behind on rent and has a notice to vacate from the landlord.
🇺🇸 Bronx, New York, United States2,004 views
When my hours were cut in half in February, Sarah fell 4 months behind on rent. Last Friday a notice to vacate was taped to the door, and the amount owed is $3,350.
The landlord was understanding for a while, but has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by May, the family must leave.
There are three school-aged children at home. Moving would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else.
Sarah has started working extra hours at a market stall, and is applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here.
The money will be paid directly to the landlord and I'll upload the receipt once it's done.
Where the $3,350 goes:
• Rent arrears (4 months): $2,750
• Late fees and court costs: $270
• Utilities in arrears: $330
