When my hours were cut in half in April, Huy fell 4 months behind on rent. Last Wednesday a 10-day notice to quit was taped to the door, and the amount owed is $450. The landlord was understanding for a while, but has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by August, the family must leave. There are a toddler and a baby at home. Moving would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else. Huy has started working two part-time jobs, and is applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here. Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent. Where the $450 goes: • Rent arrears (4 months): $350 • Utilities in arrears: $35 • Late fees and court costs: $65 Thank you so much. - Loan
