Restoring the Acacia wetland: a volunteer-led project in Mumbai
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Acacia wetland needs $350 for saplings and equipment.
🇮🇳 India860 views
The Acacia wetland has been used as an informal dump for years. This June, 82 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 180 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $350 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $155
• Tools and protective gear: $70
• Waste removal and skip hire: $120
• Signage and educational materials: $5
Every share and every dollar helps.

You're not alone, Aarti. Hope this works out for you. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money.
