For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 30 volunteers, including a group of teenagers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Unity bus depot, but no funding. We have received donated tools, and the remaining cost is $2,650. It will serve about 463 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in September and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $2,650 goes: • Materials: $1,850 • Permits and inspections: $210 • Safety equipment and signage: $135 • Tools hire and delivery: $455 Every share and every dollar helps. - Rekha

  • Stay strong, Rekha. It takes guts to ask. Well done. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. Blessings.
