Vanessa is facing a work-permit appeal. The hearing is scheduled for October, and the filing fees and the lawyer's retainer come to $1,200. Three legal-aid offices have said their waiting lists are longer than the deadline. Vanessa has all the paperwork ready, and a caseworker at Salvador Welcome Centre has confirmed that the case is valid. If the deadline is missed Vanessa could lose the right to stay with the family and the job. The children were born here and this is the only home they know. Funds cover only the filing fees, translations and attorney retainer. Where the $1,200 goes: • Attorney retainer: $950 • Filing and biometrics fees: $110 • Certified translations and document copies: $60 • Court-appointed interpreter and travel: $80 Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.

Keep going. Your post was clear and honest. I went through something like this 4 years ago and strangers helped me out. Thinking of Salvador.

Stay strong. This could happen to any of us. I went through something like this 14 years ago and strangers helped me out. Thinking of Salvador.

Hope it all works out, Rafaela. Hope you get there. After 21 years in logistics I know how hard it's to ask for anything. All the best.
