New Delhi
For three years I have run a neighborhood bakery in New Delhi. In September, a break-in took a commercial oven. I have no insurance, and the bank won't lend to me. Before that, my customers came every Monday, and I employed 1 people from the neighborhood. I have been out of business for 7 weeks. This business pays my children's school fees and rent. I have already started working from home in small ways, but I can't meet orders without proper equipment. Every contribution brings me closer to reopening, and I promise to post photos as I buy each item. I'll buy equipment from local suppliers and post photos and receipts as I go. Where the $600 goes: • Replacing a commercial oven: $350 • Initial stock: flour, butter and sugar: $80 • Shop repairs and licensing: $95 • Working capital for the first month: $75 You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it. - Kajal

  • Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Kajal

Replacing a commercial oven is $350 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Ask me anything else.

  • Rooting for you, Kajal. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I'm in hospitality myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you

    • is there anything that isn't money that would help Kajal?
