Cedar Beach has been used as an informal dump for years. This July, 42 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 52 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good. We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist. The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade. All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials. We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted. Where the $250 goes: • Tools and protective gear: $40 • Waste removal and skip hire: $45 • Native saplings and stakes: $165 Thanks for being kind about this.

  • Great idea, hope you get there. After 22 years in public service I know how hard it's to ask for anything.

    • Thinking of you and your family, Wafula. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double.

      • Wishing you peace. More neighborhoods should do this. Sent it to 21 people at work. Take care.

        • Sending good thoughts, Wafula. Gave what I could, wish it was more. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust. Thinking of Nairobi.
