Clean air and water for Alcalá de Henares: restoring the Lotus riverbank
Volunteers are restoring the Lotus riverbank in Alcalá de Henares; $1,350 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
Anywhere in the world2,205 views
The Lotus riverbank has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 104 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 123 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $1,350 goes:
• Waste removal and skip hire: $600
• Signage and educational materials: $190
• Native saplings and stakes: $560
Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.

Rooting for you, Alberto. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Take care
Shared this with my family. Love from Feira de Santana.
Sending love, Alberto. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected!
Looking forward to the next update. Wish I lived closer to Badagry so I could bring a meal

So sorry you're going through this, Alberto. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. My husband and I read this together. Love from San Francisco
