Nairobi
For three years I have run a fish stall in Nairobi. In July, a fire in the building took a freezer and scales. I have no insurance, and the bank won't lend to me. Before that, my customers came every Thursday, and I employed 3 people from the neighborhood. I have been out of business for 6 weeks. This business pays my children's school fees and rent. I have already started working from home in small ways, but I can't meet orders without proper equipment. Every contribution brings me closer to reopening, and I promise to post photos as I buy each item. Once I'm back on my feet I plan to hire back the people I had to let go. Where the $650 goes: • Working capital for the first month: $80 • Initial stock: the first catch: $95 • Replacing a freezer and scales: $475 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support. - Mary

  • Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Mary

Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. working capital for the first month comes first ($80) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Good question.

  • hope the shop reopens soon. Don't be hard on yourself for asking

    • Praying for you. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Thinking of Nairobi

      • Take care. Hope you get there. I hope September is when things finally get easier. Take care!
