Clean streams for Dhaka: restoring the Maple riverbank
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Maple riverbank needs $100 for saplings and equipment.
🇧🇩 Dhaka, Bangladesh1,341 views
The Maple riverbank has been used as an informal dump for years. This September, 61 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 182 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $100 goes:
• Tools and protective gear: $50
• Waste removal and skip hire: $40
• Signage and educational materials: $10
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

Hope it all works out, Shahana. This could happen to any of us. After 20 years in farming I know how hard it's to ask for anything.
is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Shahana
Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. tools and protective gear comes first ($50) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Thanks, that means a lot.
Praying for you, Shahana. Gave what I could, wish it was more. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day. Blessings.
I hope things turn around soon. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money. Thinking of Dhaka
