Clean air and water for Epe: restoring the Lotus riverbank
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Lotus riverbank needs $250 for saplings and equipment.
🇳🇬 Epe, Lagos, Nigeria752 views
The Lotus riverbank has been used as an informal dump for years. This June, 72 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 177 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $250 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $100
• Tools and protective gear: $40
• Waste removal and skip hire: $55
• Signage and educational materials: $55
Every share and every dollar helps.

Updates from Festus
Update from Epe: the first invoice got paid this week. We're at 77% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.
Good news. Because of your gifts ($133 in total) the plan for signage and educational materials is now scheduled. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

Sending strength, Festus. Great idea, hope you get there. Take care.
How is Festus doing now?
Hang in there. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. I have a 7 year old who wants to send good wishes too. All the best.
Hang in there. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. Don't give up. Thinking of Epe.
