A solar-powered water pump: a volunteer-led effort in Rochester
Volunteers in Rochester are raising $3,450 for a solar-powered water pump at Union Primary School.

For three years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 26 volunteers, including the parish youth group, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Union Primary School, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $3,450.
It will serve about 385 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in September and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $3,450 goes:
• Materials: $2,800
• Tools hire and delivery: $480
• Safety equipment and signage: $170
