Weekly meals for families and seniors in Newport
The Bread & Beans Kitchen pantry in Newport is running low just as demand rises; $2,900 will stock it for 12 weeks.

Since 2023, our volunteer team has run Bread & Beans Kitchen every Tuesday from the back of the old library basement. We started with 17 families, and now we feed 214 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 33% this harvest gap, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 12 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Newport market and keep every receipt.
Each $45 feeds a family of four for a week.
I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday.
Where the $2,900 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $1,400
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $950
• Baby formula and diapers: $220
• Refrigeration and electricity: $330
