Restoring the Pioneer canal: a volunteer-led project in Tema
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Pioneer canal needs $350 for saplings and equipment.
🇬🇭 Ghana1,794 views
The Pioneer canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 105 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 88 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $350 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $135
• Tools and protective gear: $35
• Waste removal and skip hire: $125
• Signage and educational materials: $55
I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.

Hope it all works out, Kwadwo. Looking forward to the next update. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. Thinking of Tema.
Wishing you peace, Kwadwo. Looking forward to the next update. I'm in social work myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. Blessings
Thinking of you and your family, Kwadwo. Hope this works out for you. After 12 years in public service I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Take care!
