Weekly meals for families and seniors in Machakos
The Community Pantry pantry in Machakos is running low just as demand rises; $400 will stock it for 11 weeks.

Since 2022, our volunteer team has run Community Pantry every Tuesday from the back of a school canteen. We started with 24 families, and now we feed 184 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 43% this winter, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 19 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Machakos market and keep every receipt.
Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week.
I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday.
Where the $400 goes:
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $200
• Refrigeration and electricity: $35
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $165

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Fatuma
Sure. The biggest one is fresh vegetables and fruit, $200. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Good question.
