I coordinate donations at the Acacia Family Centre in Houston. Every year around this time we hear from families who have nothing warm for their children, and this year demand has more than doubled. We're collecting clean, gently used or new coats, boots, hats, gloves and scarves in sizes kids' 3 to 5 and women's S-L. If you're in Houston, we can arrange a pick-up or you can drop things at the Acacia Family Centre on Sunday between 11am and 2pm. If you're elsewhere, you may offer to sponsor a coat through a local shop - message in the comments and we can coordinate. Items go to families directly and the rest to the the Acacia Family Centre clothing bank, which is open to everyone. Glad we found this place.

  • Hope things get better soon. This could happen to any of us. After 12 years in accounting I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Thinking of Houston.

    • Thanks for sharing this, Anna. I hope your landlord gives you a bit more time while this comes together. After 24 years in nursing I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Thinking of Houston

      • I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Wish I lived closer to Feira de Santana so I could bring a meal.
