For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a community garden. This year a group of 27 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Liberty vacant lot, but no funding. We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $100, and the remaining cost is $300. It will serve about 107 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in May and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $300 goes: • Permits and inspections: $25 • Tools hire and delivery: $75 • Materials: $200 Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.

  • is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Shima.

    • Permits and inspections is $25 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Let me know if you want more detail.

  • sending strength. Gave what I could, wish it was more. Don't give up. Blessings.

    • Praying for you, Shima. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day. God bless.

      • Thinking of you and your family. More neighborhoods should do this. My brother had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. Blessings.
