Upendo was diagnosed with endometriosis requiring surgery in May. The surgeon at Dar es Salaam General Hospital recommended cataract surgery, and She is scheduled for September. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,900, and after what my employer's plan will pay we're still $950 short.
my mother has been in and out of Dar es Salaam General Hospital since May. The doctors say endometriosis requiring surgery will get worse without cataract surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,900 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Upendo struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Recovery is expected to take about 8 weeks. During that time Upendo won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing.
