Stop the eviction: 2 months of rent for Lakshmi's family in Chennai
A 10-day notice to quit arrived last week. Lakshmi needs $500 to clear the arrears and stay housed in Chennai.

Following a long illness in the family, I fell 2 months behind on rent. Last Tuesday a 10-day notice to quit was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $500.
My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by August, we must leave.
I have two young children at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else.
I have started working weekend shifts, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here.
Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent.
Where the $500 goes:
• First month of rent as a buffer: $85
• Rent arrears (2 months): $370
• Utilities in arrears: $45
Glad we found this place.

Best of luck, Lakshmi. I hope things turn around soon. I hope August is when things finally get easier. Thinking of Chennai.
