Start-up fund for Faruk: reopening a neighborhood bakery after a break-in
A neighborhood bakery in Dhaka needs help replacing a commercial oven after a break-in.
🇧🇩 Dhaka, Dhaka, Bangladesh547 views
For six years I have run a neighborhood bakery in Dhaka. In September, a break-in took a commercial oven. I have no insurance, and the bank won't lend to me.
Before that, my customers came every Friday, and I employed 1 people from the neighborhood. I have been out of business for 6 weeks.
This business pays my children's school fees and rent. I have already started working from home in small ways, but I can't meet orders without proper equipment.
Every contribution brings me closer to reopening, and I promise to post photos as I buy each item.
I'll buy equipment from local suppliers and post photos and receipts as I go.
Where the $550 goes:
• Replacing a commercial oven: $370
• Initial stock: flour, butter and sugar: $60
• Shop repairs and licensing: $80
• Working capital for the first month: $40
Every share and every dollar helps.
Updates from Faruk
2% there. I made the first payment toward working capital for the first month. Thank you. - Faruk
Small update. $258 so far, I made the first payment toward shop repairs and licensing.
Good news. Because of your gifts ($258 in total) we've booked the dates and paid the deposit. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

Keep going, Faruk. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. All the best.
Wishing you the best, Faruk. Shared it with a few friends. Greetings from Naples.
Hope you get there. I'm in public service myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. Love from St. Petersburg.
Thinking of you, Faruk. This could happen to any of us!
you're not alone, Faruk. Shared it with a few friends. Put this on a community board in Laredo this morning. All the best.
