Embakasi
In December I was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer. My oncology team at Embakasi Regional Medical Center has planned 6 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in March. I was told to expect about 7 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 53, I worked as a farmer until December, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Embakasi Regional Medical Center 3 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $1,650 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $710 • Scans and lab work: $310 • Transport to Embakasi Regional Medical Center: $180 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $75 • Household costs while unable to work: $375 I hope life is good to you. - Atim

Updates from Atim

  1. Update from Embakasi: I made the first payment toward household costs while unable to work. We're at 61% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

  2. Small update. $354 so far, I met with the treatment center and confirmed the amounts.

  • is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Atim

    • Atim UrassaOwnerAnswer

Chemotherapy and medication not covered is $710 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Appreciate you taking the time.

  • Sending good thoughts, Atim. Shared this with my family. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Take care.
