Could you drive Yolanda to the Bakersfield Dialysis Unit on Sunday? A rota of 4 drivers is forming.

Yolanda has been on dialysis for 1 years and until recently drove to the Bakersfield Dialysis Unit alone. After a minor stroke, Yolanda can no longer drive. Taxis cost more than the family can pay three times a week. We're building a rota of volunteer drivers. Each session is 4 hours, including the trip there and back; most volunteers take one regular day. The journey is about 33 km each way. Yolanda is cheerful company. You'd need a car in good condition and a clean driving record. We'll cover your fuel costs, and the family will send you home with homemade food. Please say which day works for you in the comments. You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.

  • Keep going, Alejandra. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. I went through something like this 13 years ago and strangers helped me out.

    • So sorry you're going through this. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Don't give up. All the best.

      • Best of luck. Looking forward to the next update. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double

        • Gave what I could, wish it was more. I have a 17 year old who wants to send good wishes too. Take care.

          • Hope it all works out, Alejandra. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. I hope November is when things finally get easier. Take care
