Restoring Freedom Creek: a volunteer-led project in Tallahassee
A neighborhood-led restoration of Freedom Creek needs $1,850 for saplings and equipment.
Anywhere in the world375 views
Freedom Creek has been used as an informal dump for years. This June, 94 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 56 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the municipal water board, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $1,850 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $1,150
• Tools and protective gear: $480
• Signage and educational materials: $220
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.

How is Mateo doing now?
Good luck, Mateo. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Love from Buffalo.
is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Mateo
Sure. The biggest one is native saplings and stakes, $1,150. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Fair thing to want to know.
I hope things turn around soon. Love from Aurangabad.
Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. Please keep us posted. Blessings
