Rashmi was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in January. The oncology team at Sydney Cancer Centre has planned 4 rounds of treatment, starting in April. She will be away from work for about 8 weeks.
Rashmi is 57, worked as a tailor until January, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after her.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to Sydney Cancer Centre 5 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly.
We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off her shoulders.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $8,000 goes:
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $4,200
• Scans and lab work: $650
• Transport to Sydney Cancer Centre: $900
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $440
• Household costs while unable to work: $1,810
