My taxi: Wanjiru's only way to earn a living
Wanjiru drives for a living in Dodoma, and a broken transmission has stopped all income for 10 weeks.

I make my living with my taxi. 10 weeks ago the transmission failed, and the mechanic says the repair will cost $155. Without the vehicle I earn nothing.
I have been borrowing from friends to pay rent, and now I have run out of people to ask.
I support my family of five. Before the breakdown I worked nine hours a day, six days a week. I have been offered extra shifts for the next six months if I can just get the vehicle working.
I have a written estimate from a certified mechanic and will upload it here.
All money will go toward the parts and labor on the estimate, with a small amount for road tax and insurance renewal.
Where the $155 goes:
• transmission replacement (parts): $110
• Labor charges: $20
• Road tax and insurance renewal: $20
• Towing and inspection: $5
Thanks for being kind about this.

Wishing you the best. Hope the shop reopens soon. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. All the best
