Mauricio was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in March. The oncology team at the Bucaramanga Oncology Institute has planned 10 rounds of treatment, starting in July. He will be away from work for about 4 weeks. Mauricio is 52, worked as a primary school teacher until March, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after him. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to the Bucaramanga Oncology Institute 4 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly. We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off his shoulders. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $2,700 goes: • Household costs while unable to work: $280 • Transport to the Bucaramanga Oncology Institute: $240 • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $2,050 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $130 Please ask me anything in the questions section.
