Los Angeles
The tornado hit the Orchard district on 15 January. My home was one of 72 damaged, and 11 families are still in temporary shelter at the local school gym. The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming. Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before. We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy. We buy supplies locally and in bulk, so the money goes further. Receipts and photos will be posted in updates. Where the $5,700 goes: • Tools and labor for repairs: $1,050 • Clean water and purification supplies: $610 • Food parcels for displaced families: $1,500 • Roofing sheets and timber: $2,540 I hope life is good to you.

Updates from Nora

  1. Good news. Because of your gifts ($2,453 in total) we've started the first stage. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  2. We're at 22% thanks to 30 of you. I made the first payment toward tools and labor for repairs. More news soon.

Thinking of you, Nora. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Wish I lived closer to Colombo so I could bring a meal. Greetings from Katowice.
