Let's build a youth football pitch together in Istanbul
A community-led a youth football pitch at Freedom Primary School that will serve 208 neighbors.
🇹🇷 Istanbul, Istanbul, Türkiye2,127 views
For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a youth football pitch. This year a group of 22 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Freedom Primary School, but no funding.
We have received donated a pump, and the remaining cost is $650.
It will serve about 208 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $650 goes:
• Materials: $380
• Permits and inspections: $40
• Safety equipment and signage: $95
• Tools hire and delivery: $135
Thanks for reading all this.

Quick update: $60 raised so far (9%). the plan for materials is now scheduled. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.
Update from Istanbul: the first invoice got paid this week. We're at 15% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

Hope it all works out. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. My cousin had a similar thing happen so this one hit home.
hope you get there. I'm in retail myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. Blessings.
you're not alone, Recep. Hope this works out for you. I hope November is when things finally get easier
reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Don't be hard on yourself for asking. Love from Jakarta Selatan.
Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Recep!
it takes guts to ask. Well done. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Thinking of Istanbul!
You're not alone, Recep. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Blessings
Rooting for you, Recep. This could happen to any of us. Sent it to 8 people at work. All the best.
Stay strong, Recep. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money.
Praying for you, Recep. I hope things turn around soon. After 21 years in engineering I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Thinking of Istanbul
Take care. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Don't give up.
Sending love, Recep. Looking forward to the next update.
