Let's build a rainwater harvesting system together in Mombasa
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a rainwater harvesting system - we need $800 for materials.
🇰🇪 Mombasa, Mombasa, Kenya1,256 views
For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 14 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Acacia community hall, but no funding.
We have received donated a pump, and the remaining cost is $800.
It will serve about 161 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in September and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $800 goes:
• Materials: $590
• Permits and inspections: $25
• Safety equipment and signage: $85
• Tools hire and delivery: $100
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.

Best of luck, Joyce. Shared this with my family. Greetings from Ribeirão Preto.
stay strong, Joyce. Your post was clear and honest. My neighbor in Nagpur donated after I showed her your page. Thinking of Mombasa.
can I help in a way that isn't money? I'm near Mombasa.
Thank you. If you're in Mombasa I'll say if something practical comes up. For now sharing this is great. Let me know if you want more detail.
Hope things get better soon, Joyce. More neighborhoods should do this. Please keep us posted. All the best
