Need strong backs and a van: moving Shefali to safer housing

A short, concrete way to help: a few hours of lifting and loading in Dhaka.

After the rent increase, I found a safe, affordable apartment in Dhaka, and the lease starts on Thursday. I have my elderly father, a few pieces of furniture and no money for movers. I'm hoping for 3-4 helpers for about six hours. If you have a van or pickup, that would help enormously - I'll cover fuel. The old place is on the fourth floor walk-up and the new place has just one flight of stairs. We'll do it in two trips. Lunch and cold drinks are on me. I know this is a lot to ask of strangers. I'd be happy to share references from my landlord and my employer. Thank you for reading my story.

  • Thinking of you and your family. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. Thinking of Dhaka

    • Thinking of you, Shefali. Rent stress is the worst. Hope this helps. My neighbor in Mukono donated after I showed her your page. Take care.

      • Take care. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. We're a small family in Johannesburg but we're thinking of you. Blessings

        • wishing you the best, Shefali. Your post was clear and honest. After 13 years in logistics I know how hard it's to ask for anything.

          • Thinking of you, Shefali. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Thinking of Dhaka.
