After a car accident that kept me from work for 8 weeks, I fell 2 months behind on rent. Last Tuesday a notice to vacate was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $2,200. My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by July, we must leave. I have a teenager still in school at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else. I have started working two part-time jobs, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here. Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent. Where the $2,200 goes: • Rent arrears (2 months): $1,300 • Late fees and court costs: $70 • Utilities in arrears: $230 • First month of rent as a buffer: $600 Thanks for reading all this. - Qasim

Take care, Qasim. Rent stress is the worst. Hope this helps. My sister had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. Take care

          • Wishing you the best, Qasim. I hope your landlord gives you a bit more time while this comes together. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double.

you're not alone, Qasim. Your post was clear and honest. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry.

                • Hope it all works out. I was in a similar spot a few years ago and it did get better. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust. All the best.
