Plant 3,200 native trees around the Baobab hillside in Nairobi
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Baobab hillside needs $500 for saplings and equipment.
🇰🇪 Kenya1,571 views
The Baobab hillside has been used as an informal dump for years. This June, 88 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 98 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the municipal water board, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $500 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $250
• Tools and protective gear: $45
• Waste removal and skip hire: $150
• Signage and educational materials: $55
Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.
Updates from Githinji
Update from Nairobi: the plan for native saplings and stakes is now scheduled. We're at 45% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.
Good news. Because of your gifts ($25 in total) the plan for waste removal and skip hire is now scheduled. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

Hang in there. Your post was clear and honest. My neighbor in Thủ Đức donated after I showed her your page. Blessings.
