Help Waweru restart a tailoring shop in Kampala after a long illness and repossession

Waweru has run a tailoring shop for fifteen years; a long illness and repossession destroyed the equipment, and $500 will put it back on its feet.

Kampala
For fifteen years I have run a tailoring shop in Kampala. In May, a long illness and repossession took three industrial sewing machines. I have no insurance, and the bank won't lend to me. Before that, my customers came every Wednesday, and I employed 2 people from the neighborhood. I have been out of business for 10 weeks. This business pays my children's school fees and rent. I have already started working from home in small ways, but I can't meet orders without proper equipment. Every contribution brings me closer to reopening, and I promise to post photos as I buy each item. Once I'm back on my feet I plan to hire back the people I had to let go. Where the $500 goes: • Replacing three industrial sewing machines: $350 • Initial stock: fabric and thread: $40 • Shop repairs and licensing: $40 • Working capital for the first month: $70 If you're reading this, thank you. - Waweru

Updates from Waweru

  1. Good news. Because of your gifts ($356 in total) the plan for replacing three industrial sewing machines is now scheduled. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely. - Waweru

  2. Thank you all. We're at 71% now ($356). I'm honestly stunned. I made the first payment toward replacing three industrial sewing machines.

  3. Update from Kampala: we've booked the dates and paid the deposit. We're at 7% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.
