Walter was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer in August. The oncology team at Red Deer Cancer Centre has planned 4 rounds of treatment, starting in October. He will be away from work for about 3 weeks.
Walter is 39, worked as a primary school teacher until August, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after him.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to Red Deer Cancer Centre 2 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly.
We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off his shoulders.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $10,900 goes:
• Transport to Red Deer Cancer Centre: $900
• Scans and lab work: $1,050
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $7,000
• Household costs while unable to work: $1,950
