Since 2020, our volunteer team has run Neighbors' Pantry every Wednesday from the back of a school canteen. We started with 8 families, and now we feed 116 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 50% this summer, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 12 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Christchurch market and keep every receipt.
Each $40 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $3,500 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $1,700
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $1,150
• Baby formula and diapers: $540
• Refrigeration and electricity: $110

Good news. Because of your gifts ($299 in total) I made the first payment toward baby formula and diapers. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
Quick update: $165 raised so far (5%). we've booked the dates and paid the deposit. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.
Small update. $65 so far, I met with the wholesaler and confirmed the amounts.
