Madelyn was diagnosed with severe cataracts in both eyes in January. The surgeon at Southampton Regional Medical Center recommended gallbladder removal, and She is scheduled for April. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,350, and after what my employer's plan will pay we're still $800 short. my mother has been in and out of Southampton Regional Medical Center since January. The doctors say severe cataracts in both eyes will get worse without gallbladder removal. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,350 is more than we can find. While we wait, Madelyn struggles with daily life and can't walk without help. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 8 weeks. During that time Madelyn won't be able to walk without help, so the costs keep growing.
