Jack is the first person in the family to go to university. He is studying a diploma in hospitality management at Vancouver Community College, and is two terms away from graduating. He has worked as a library assistant to pay the way, but this term the hours were cut and there's an unpaid balance of $4,050.
The registrar has said Jack can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. Jack has a 3.9 average, and a professor has written in support.
Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support the younger siblings. Without enrolling this term Jack would lose his place and scholarship eligibility.
Jack isn't asking for a handout - He wants to finish what He started and help the next student.
Everything raised goes to the university's accounts office toward the outstanding balance and the final term's fees.
Where the $4,050 goes:
• Final term tuition: $3,650
• Textbooks and materials: $230
• Exam and lab fees: $170
