Clean air and water for Cincinnati: restoring the Jacaranda hillside
Volunteers are restoring the Jacaranda hillside in Cincinnati; $2,500 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
🇺🇸 Cincinnati, Ohio, United States2,037 views
The Jacaranda hillside has been used as an informal dump for years. This September, 109 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 147 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $2,500 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $1,450
• Tools and protective gear: $490
• Waste removal and skip hire: $460
• Signage and educational materials: $100
Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.

Thanks for sharing this, Brandon. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it
thinking of you. It takes guts to ask. Well done. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. God bless.
Praying for you. This could happen to any of us. My father had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. God bless.
So sorry you're going through this, Brandon. Hope this works out for you. After 24 years in accounting I know how hard it is to ask for anything. Take care.
More neighborhoods should do this. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Thinking of Cincinnati.
Sending love, Brandon. More neighborhoods should do this. I'm in logistics myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you
Wishing you peace. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. God bless.
wishing you peace. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected.
Great idea, hope you get there. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day. Love from Mthatha!
