Jade was diagnosed with an aortic valve defect in May. The surgeon at El Paso Regional Medical Center recommended cataract surgery, and She is scheduled for July. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $8,750, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $7,000 short. my mother has been in and out of El Paso Regional Medical Center since May. The doctors say an aortic valve defect will get worse without cataract surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $8,750 is more than we can find. While we wait, Jade struggles with daily life and can't stand for more than ten minutes. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Recovery is expected to take about 12 weeks. During that time Jade won't be able to stand for more than ten minutes, so the costs keep growing.
