A free library and reading room: a volunteer-led effort in Kinondoni
A community-led a free library and reading room at Acacia Primary School that will serve 440 neighbors.

For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 29 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Acacia Primary School, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $400.
It will serve about 440 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in September and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $400 goes:
• Materials: $280
• Permits and inspections: $15
• Safety equipment and signage: $55
• Tools hire and delivery: $50
Thank you so much.

Hope it all works out. Shared it with a few friends. Don't be hard on yourself for asking.
Praying for you. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I'll check back for the next update. Greetings from Kasarani
hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend
Rooting for you, Kiprop. This could happen to any of us. My sister had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. Blessings.
wishing you peace. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust. Love from Haifa
Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Thinking of Kinondoni.
Looking forward to the next update. Greetings from Kitakyushu.
Thanks for sharing this, Kiprop. More neighborhoods should do this. Put this on a community board in Amritsar this morning.
